This post is mainly aimed at anybody who hosts their site on a shared web host. As the name suggests on shared web hosts you share your web server with a number of other users. This has a number of potential problems, including the fact that if one of those other users sends out spam email (and shared web hosts are popular for this) all the users on the same IP address can be affected by blacklisting.
I now offer a similar service on this site. You can check your spam status and better yet track your status so you don't need to remember to check it manually every couple of weeks.
If you are blacklisted you are going to start to find that not all the emails you send are delivered correctly which is going to significantly affect the service you offer. Due to the danger in being blacklisted I'm taking the step to periodically check to see whether I am or not and I would suggest that you do also.
The best tool I've forund for this is a
multi-rbl check service. There are multiple black lists so being able to check a variety of them at just one site is helpful.
To use the tool you need your ip number. There are two ways to get this, you can look at your control panel (in cPanel it is in the menu at the top left) or you can type your domain name into the service and it will tell you your ip number and allow you to check your blacklist status in a couple of clicks. An added bonus to the second method is that it also shows you which sites are also accessed via your ip number.
This is just a short followup to the post I made a short while ago looking at checking to see whether the server you host your site on has been blacklisted for sending spam. Although checking your status is important it is also rather boring. Instead of
